Global Head of IT


Position Description

Pro Insurance has a rare and exciting opportunity for a Global Head of IT to provide leadership to the global IT team, setting direction, assigning resources based on priorities and managing performance.  You will lead the implementation of the IT strategy and vision including the remediation programme.  The job holder will create the optimal IT operating model (process, technology and people) to support the strategic direction of IT and the business.  You will develop continuous improvement plans, provide input into the Ops and IT strategy and provide management of the team.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Budgetary control of circa £2m
  • Budgetary sign off authority in line with policy
  • Experience of creating the optimal IT operating model (process, technology and people) to support the strategic direction of IT
  • Experience of managing large teams globally
  • Allocation of team resources to agreed priorities
  • Selection of partners and tools subject to policy and approvals
  • Infrastructure sizing and equipment
  • Delivery of the IT remediation programme supported by the IT PM
  • Design and implementation of IT operating model
  • Assessment of technology options and recommendations
  • Provision of expert advice and guidance to the board
  • Management of third party vendor relationships
  • Development of talent and building a high performing IT team
  • Delivery of high availability infrastructure and applications
  • Significant proven experience of leading an IT function across multiple geographies
  • Ability to instil confidence in the business and demonstrate the value of IT
  • Strong business acumen
  • Experience of robustly managing third party vendors and outsource suppliers
  • Ability to develop and execute a people plan ensuring optimal deployment of resources
  • Ability to deliver organisational change in people, technology and processes within an IT function
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate IT staff

Written and verbal competencies ­­

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentational skills especially the ability to translate complex technical ideas into an accessible language for the business
  • Relationship and influencing skills up to Executive/C-suite team and Business line and functional team managers, Change Team Manager and key IT suppliers
  • Ideally Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business technology or equivalent
  • A membership of professional organisation e.g. CITP, CEng etc would be atttractive
  • Change and / or programme management qualification desirable
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills with a passion for problem solving
  • Ability to deliver organisational change in people, technology and processes within an IT function
  • Knowledge of the commercial insurance market would be advantageous
